Free EMDR Negative Cognitions List Poster

What are Negative Cognitions?

Negative cognitions, also known as negative thoughts or beliefs, are the self-perceptions and interpretations we have about ourselves, others, and the world around us. These thoughts are often rooted in past experiences and can significantly impact our emotions, behaviors, and overall well-being.

Common Examples of Negative Cognitions

During EMDR therapy, individuals often identify negative cognitions that are linked to their traumatic experiences. Here are some common negative cognitions:

  • "I am not good enough."
  • "I am powerless."
  • "I am unlovable."
  • "I am to blame."
  • "I am a failure."
  • "I am unsafe."

There are also positive cognitions - they are used to replace the negative cognitions. Our free EMDR handout contains both the negative/positive cognitions list as a poster for you to hand out to your clients. Just enter your email below.
