Acceptance and Commitment Therapy works differently to most CBT-based approaches — instead of challenging unhelpful thoughts, it teaches clients to change their relationship to those thoughts. The six core ACT processes (acceptance, defusion, present-moment awareness, self-as-context, values, and committed action) can be difficult to explain verbally, but become much more accessible with the right structured activity.
