The IFS & Parts Work Mega Bundle brings together three printable, IFS-informed resources for adults and teens: an adult activity pack, a teen toolkit and the Part • Strategy • Need card game. Use the worksheets, cards and facilitator guidance to introduce parts language, map a protective response and explore what that response may be trying to achieve.

This is a digital PDF bundle, not a training course or a physical product. Choose a resource for your client's age, interests and readiness rather than working through the whole bundle in order.

What's included in the IFS & Parts Work Mega Bundle?

Resource Starting point
IFS & Parts Work Activity Pack for Adults Choose an adult-focused worksheet or activity to explore parts and protective patterns.
IFS & Parts Work for Teens Therapy Toolkit Use an adolescent-focused resource when concrete language and choice suit the session.
Part • Strategy • Need Card Game for Adults and Teens Use cards to separate a part's strategy from the need it may be trying to meet.

Across the bundle, the resources include psychoeducation, guided worksheets, parts-mapping activities, strategy and need cards, Self-quality cards, scenario discussion cards, playing mats, reflection prompts, session-planning tools and facilitator guidance.

The files are printable PDFs formatted for US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches), with white backgrounds. Print only the pages you plan to use. These are independent IFS-informed resources and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the IFS Institute.

Which IFS resource should I start with?

Use the client's own language. Someone might prefer “a side of me”, “my worried voice” or a simple drawing to the word “part”. You do not need to begin with a detailed parts map.

A complete example: separate the part, strategy and need

This original activity can be run with blank paper. The bundle offers prepared materials when you want to spend less time making worksheets and cards.

Purpose: practise noticing what a protective response does and consider what it may be trying to protect. Materials: paper with three columns labelled Part, Strategy and Possible need. Time: allow approximately 5–10 minutes, or stop earlier if that suits the session.

  1. Start with a fictional situation. Say: “Alex has a presentation tomorrow. A voice says, ‘Keep checking it. It isn't ready.’ We can explore Alex's example without sharing your own experience.”
  2. Name the part in everyday words. Ask: “What would you call this side of Alex?” Write “The checker” as one possible answer.
  3. Describe the strategy. Ask: “What does the checker get Alex to do?” Write “Read the slides repeatedly and postpone sleep.”
  4. Offer a tentative need. Ask: “What might it hope to prevent or help with?” Possible answers include “avoiding mistakes”, “feeling prepared” or “not being judged”. Treat these as possibilities, not facts about Alex or the client.
  5. Try a curious response. Say: “Could Alex acknowledge the wish to be prepared and ask what a manageable checking plan might look like?” An example is one final review followed by an agreed stopping point. Let the client suggest another response.
  6. Review the distinction. Ask: “How is the strategy different from the need? What could we ask before deciding we understand this part?”

Worked row: The checker | repeated reviewing | possibly wanting preparedness or protection from criticism. The aim is curiosity about the pattern, not getting rid of a part or proving its motive.

Second scenario: Sam stops replying after an awkward conversation. A possible part name is “The withdrawer”; the strategy is avoiding messages; a possible need is space or protection from further embarrassment. Ask the client to suggest a different explanation before choosing any next step.

Adapt the activity to the client and setting

  • For a teen: let them invent a character, draw the response or choose between two possible names. Make personal application optional.
  • For an adult: offer a current, manageable example if they want one. Ask permission before moving from a fictional situation to personal material.
  • In a group: work on the same fictional scenario, then compare interpretations. Do not ask members to identify one another's parts.
  • If writing is a barrier: speak, draw or use a shared screen. One short row is enough.
  • If the work becomes overwhelming: pause the exercise and return to the client's agreed grounding or support approach. This activity does not require trauma disclosure or work with traumatic memories.

Prepared materials for your next parts-work session

Choose the Mega Bundle if you want a selection of printable adult and teen resources plus an interactive card game. The example above is available to use as written; the paid bundle provides the convenience of prepared PDFs and additional formats.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between IFS worksheets and parts-mapping worksheets?

Parts mapping focuses on representing and tracking parts and their relationships. An IFS-informed bundle can offer a wider selection of introductory worksheets, activities, cards and reflection tools. Choose the narrower mapping resource if that is the task you need.

Can I use the bundle with adults and teenagers?

The bundle contains adult-focused and teen-focused resources, plus the Part • Strategy • Need card game for adults and teens. Select material for the individual client and setting; not every page will suit every person.

Is this an IFS certification or training course?

No. This is a collection of printable, IFS-informed resources. It does not provide certification, replace clinical training or establish competence in IFS therapy.

Will I receive a physical workbook?

No. This is a digital PDF product. You can print selected pages for use within the applicable licence.

Can I share the PDFs with colleagues?

Check the product licence before sharing or distributing files. Buying a digital resource does not automatically give permission to redistribute it.

Can I use these with my clients?

Yes! Use them with as many clients as you like, for as long as you like. They're not for resale or for use inside a course you sell.

I am not a therapist, can I use these on my own?

Yes! These worksheets can be used by anyone wanting to learn about the topics. They are not for use in crisis or emergency situations.

How do I integrate these into my practice?

All of our worksheets are print ready. So just choose the pages you want to print and off you go. You can give them to clients to take home or use them for your notes. We also offer some digital worksheets.
